Wells, springs and mountains have all been held sacred in ancient times as places where the veil between the Divine and Human worlds becomes thin. They are spaces in which we can open to a ‘tirtha’, where the worlds cross over; a bridge to the Infinite reservoir. Such tirthas are special temples of nature that have been pilgrimage sites throughout the ages.
What does it mean to be a spiritual person in modern western culture? How do we take all that has gone before: the old ways, the imposed religions and the scientific modes, and how do we find ourselves in, through and all around these substrata of western thought?
The answer lies in opening our heart to our inner nature, becoming one with what exists all around us.
On this retreat, allow your spirit to ignite and your soul to soar on wings of timeless story, archetype and mysticism. Let yourself feel and be with the sacredness that has been raised up, and add your own blessings for the world through the portals and ley lines, waters and stones.
As Westerners, we live inside of a philosophical foundation cut off from recognition of the sentience, wisdom and personality of most of creation. Thus, it can be difficult to think of the natural world, plants, animals, soil, sun, rock and Earth, planets and stars as having a Divine core, let alone an individuated character. We assume that nature is mute, and cannot imagine that animals, plants and other life forms may have means of communication that might be different from our own. Perhaps they have feelings, sensations and consciousness.
In Indigenous cultures, in India and in the high mystery schools of the West, the knowledge of the old truths has always been kept alive. It is just the mainstream that forgot. It seems that now, at the turning of the Age, and the coming of an airy, Aquarian energy, we can discuss things that would not have been possible during the watery age of Pisces or the fiery age of Aries which came before. Instead of being cut off, we can become not only more mindful but more spirited and soulful as we weave our own consciousness with that of the divine in the world around us..
